AI Tools

A tool is a ready-made prompt on the editor's AI Tools menu. Grafida ships five, and you can add your own.

The five bundled tools

  • Generate — write new content from a short description.
  • Proofread — correct spelling and grammar without changing anything else.
  • Friendly Rewrite — rewrite in a warmer, more approachable tone.
  • Professional Rewrite — rewrite in a more formal, businesslike tone.
  • Summarise — condense the article, or the text you gave it, into a shorter version.

Tapping one on the AI Tools menu sends whatever you have typed in the AI panel's message box as the task; if you have typed nothing, it sends the tool's own name instead, so the model still has something to act on. Either way, the whole article goes along with it as context — see AI Chat.

Overriding a bundled tool

Editing one of the five changes what it does without removing it from the menu; Restore default on that same tool brings back the shipped version. A bundled tool cannot be deleted — only overridden or restored.

Writing your own tool

A custom tool needs:

  • Title — what appears on the AI Tools menu.
  • Prompt — the instructions given to the model, in addition to Grafida's own system prompt, unless you turn on Override system prompt (below).
  • Tone, optional — one of Grafida's built-in tones of voice, layered on top of the prompt.
  • Service, optional — pins this tool to one particular AI service instead of following whichever one is marked default.

Note

A tool's prompt and tone are written in English and stay in English whichever language you use Grafida in, because they are instructions the model reads, not text you see. Everything Grafida draws around them — the field labels, the menu, the buttons — follows your chosen language as normal.

Override system prompt

Grafida's system prompt tells the model to act as a copy editor: rewrite, proofread, reformat, summarise, and answer questions about the content it is given, and do nothing else. Every bundled tool adds its own instructions on top of that.

Turning on Override system prompt replaces it instead of adding to it. Use this when a tool's own instructions are a complete job description on their own and the copy-editor framing would get in the way.

Deleting a custom tool

Removes it from the menu outright. A bundled tool cannot be deleted this way — see above.

The system prompt

The instructions given to every tool by default live on their own, editable field, reached from the AI assistant's settings. Leaving it blank uses Grafida's own default; typing something replaces it for every tool that has not turned on Override system prompt.

Note

Grafida for Android keeps its own database, separate from Akeeba's older desktop Grafida. Editing this prompt here has no effect on that application, and vice versa.
